Warrants, 1877-1949.

Record group 84-51 consists of warrants from the Michigan Department of State for the years 1877-1949. The first of these documents, warrants of agents (1877-1946), are form papers made out by the governor of Michigan on behalf of officers from other states. The record identifies the name of the agent and the state he represents; the name of the criminal who has fled to Michigan; and the violation of which he is guilty. The second item, warrants of sheriffs (1877-1949), authorizes such officers to arrest a citizen of another state who has fled to Michigan to avoid prosecution. This record gives the name of the criminal; type of offense; when and where violation occurred; and name of agent to whom the fugitive should be delivered.
